How to Place Furniture in Second Life

Welcome to Dutchie’s guide on how to place furniture in Second Life. This guide will walk you through the process of placing and adjusting your Dutchie furniture, helping you create stunning virtual living spaces with ease.

Locate Your Furniture in Inventory

To locate your Second Life furniture in your inventory, open the inventory window by clicking the suitcase icon typically found in the toolbar, or by pressing the shortcut key Ctrl+I.

Once the inventory window is open, your furniture can be found in two places: either in the “Objects” folder or in its own dedicated folder. Most Dutchie furniture purchases are delivered in their own folders, named after the specific item, making them easy to find. If you don’t immediately see the folder, navigate to the “Objects” folder, where most in-world items, including furniture, are stored.

If you have a large inventory, use the search bar at the top of the inventory window. Simply type in the name or part of the name of the furniture item or folder to quickly locate it, such as “Dutchie.”

Rez the Furniture

In your inventory, the furniture items will appear as boxes. Click and hold the left mouse button on this item. While holding the mouse button, drag the item out of the inventory window and into the desired spot on your Second Life land. Release the mouse button to rez (place) the item at the selected location. The furniture will appear in-world at the spot where you released the mouse button.

Adjusting and Positioning Furniture

Right-click the item and select “Edit” to adjust its position. Use the colored arrows to move the item along the X, Y, and Z axes. Use the colored circles to rotate the item. Use the “Position” and “Rotation” fields in the Edit window for precise adjustments. Some furniture can also be resized, by dragging the white boxes that show during the edit process around the furniture inwards or outwards. Ensure the furniture is properly aligned and not floating or intersecting with other objects.

Troubleshooting

If your furniture doesn’t rez, ensure you have building permissions to rez objects in the area. Also check if you have enough prims available, and be aware that lag or connection issues delay the appearance.

Thank you for choosing Dutchie Furniture and Homes! We hope this manual helps you create the perfect virtual living space in Second Life.
