In the past, it was easy to make Dutchie furniture invisible by making the old textures transparent. This allowed users to overlay Dutchie’s exquisite animations onto other furniture designs. With the introduction of PBR textures, this process has become more complex—but it is still possible! By following the steps below, you can make Dutchie’s PBR textures invisible using the Alpha Masking or Alpha Blending features available in Second Life’s material editor.
Please make a copy of your furniture before you start editing.
1. Select Your Object
Right-click on the object you want to edit and choose Edit from the menu.
2. Open the Texture Tab
In the build tool window, navigate to the Texture tab.
3. Apply a Transparent Base Texture
Replace the Diffuse (Base Color) texture with a fully transparent texture or a texture that includes an alpha channel.
4. Edit the PBR Materials
Open the Materials tab within the texture editor (click the “Material” button if visible). Then make the following changes:
- Replace the Metallic Map with a black texture (0% metallic).
- Replace the Roughness Map with a white texture (100% roughness).
- Clear or replace the Normal Map with a neutral flat normal map.
5. Enable Alpha Mode in the Texture Tab
You can choose one of two alpha modes depending on your needs:
- Alpha Blending: Allows for gradual transparency but may result in visual artifacts with overlapping layers.
- Alpha Masking: Offers sharp transparency. Set the Mask Cutoff to 0 for complete invisibility.
6. Adjust Object Glow (Optional)
If the object remains faintly visible due to glow or other settings, reduce the Glow value to 0.
Important Note
The above steps must be applied to each individual face of the object. Be sure to check all sides and surfaces to ensure full transparency.
